On Accepting Yourself
So you don't have clear skin, huge breasts, a small nose or lean thighs, but who cares? Seriously, everyone has at least one flaw that really gets to them and makes them self-conscious. At the end of the day, you are who you are and you need to learn to accept yourself. Yes, you can improve yourself on minor things like working out to stay fit and healthy and lose the weight that seems to bother you so much or go to the dermatologist and gynecologist to get pills and/or topical medicine to combat breaks out to give clear skin, but you are you regardless of any of that. Society is a screwed up mess and if they are telling you that you're not good enough, flip them off.
For me, I do what I want because it is for me. Such as dieting and working out regularly since last week. I felt my clothes becoming tighter even though the scale only said I gained five pounds. My goal is to drop a pants size to be a weird size between an 8 and a 10 in the USA which places me at a 10 or 12 or something in the UK. I'm perfectly fine with that because I have always had thick thighs and a butt and a half. Perks of being Puerto Rican, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, I guess. The point is, I'm doing this because I want to, not because others are saying I'm too this or that.
I accept that I won't ever be a tall and thin model from Fashion Week. I accept and own it. I may not be thin but I fill out a shift dress nicely because I'm all curved. That's a plus, so many women would kill to do that. See? Accepting myself and owning it.
As for my other insecurities, my skin is a pain. It's not as severe as some people, but I do have mild adult acne that drives me nuts. It's a symptom of PCOS and I might never actually get rid of it but I've learned to manage it. Mostly I wash my face twice a day, watch what makeup I use and use face masks and spot creams daily. I have found what, for the most part, works and makes me feel I can go without makeup should I want to. That is winning and accepting because I'm not about to go on some type of antibiotic for my face.
I think the key to accepting yourself is realizing that every single person on the planet has at least one thing they would love to change about themselves. They may hide it better than you, but it exists. You are yourself and you should accept that. Don't spend time wishing you were someone else or anything. Build the life you want and own everything you are made of.

Love post like these. And this photo i like. The most important thing, is to be happy with yourself. (justwrittenme)
ReplyDeleteI love how much people are talking about self acceptance and body confidence in the blogging world lately! Such a strong message that we all need reminding of every now and then! I'm the same as you, my legs are thick because of all the walking I do, and I'm proud of that. Sure when things start to feel a bit snug I get a bit down, but I need to remind myself that watching what I eat and working out is some thing I like doing, not something I have to do! Stephie xx

GIRL! It's really all about owning it and loving yourself! This post gave me life. If you can't love yourself you can't love anyone else. Self acceptance is key!
ReplyDeleteI did a post on acceptance as well! Check mine out on my blog - keepingupwithMJ.com
