Overview

My Review
I picked this novel simply because I liked the tile and am delighted that I did. Dani and Tate are great together and it takes them a bit to actually become easy with one another since their first meeting went horribly wrong. Tate comes off as an arrogant twat but eventually shows his true colors which are a lot prettier. Dani is smart, witty, sarcastic, and good hearted. There are a few times in the story where I wanted to smack Elise, Dani's friend, and then smack Dani. The story also gave me a lot of laughs. The writing is pretty freaking awesome, the story and characters develop, and there's a much desired happy ending. I think Mullins created a golden piece of literature with this story.

Meet The Author
In fourth grade, Jenna put her classmates into a story about
fire safety, and they laughed the entire time she read it aloud. Since then,
she's been writing with the sole purpose to entertain other people. Fire safety,
however, fell to the wayside when she accidentally set her grandmother's
bathroom on fire when she was 12.
In 2010, she moved from Indiana to Los Angeles to intern at
E!, and she is now a writer/editor/pop culture gatekeeper at E! Online. A
Midwest girl who prefers Southern California weather, Jenna loves the
Indianapolis Colts, saving Hyrule and training for her backup dream career:
deciding what goes into the baskets on Food Network's Chopped. She currently
resides in LA with her nerdy, handsome boyfriend Kyle and their two
fluffier-than-normal cats, Glenn and Zelda.
Q & A Session
Since you are in the entertainment industry, did you base any part of the novel off of personal experience?
There isn't much in the book that actually happened to me, but it was more pieces of my experience stuck together and some fiction thrown in there. I've been to fancy Hollywood parties and I've been on TV sets, so most of what Dani sees I have seen. But that's about it. I wish I could say I went rock climbing with a hunky TV star, but I didn't. However, I have seen the star of a popular fantasy movie series get down on the dance floor in the most awesome and embarrassing way. I'll probably put something on that in the next book.
Where did you get your inspiration to write Tate? He has a very interesting character, especially for a young Hollywood actor.
In my mind, Tate looks like Hunter Parrish. If you don't know who he is, Google him. You're welcome. And I kind of based him on a couple actors I've met and interviewed who were obviously very down the earth and cared about the people they worked with, from their costars to the interns.
How did you select the names of your main characters, Tate and Danika?
I love the name Dani for a girl, but I wanted to give her a full name and make Dani her nickname. I didn't want Danielle so I went with something a little more unique. I chose Tate because I love tater tots. I'm kidding, Tate was just chosen in the moment, but I'm not kidding about loving tater tots.
Which of your characters in the novel would you say is your favorite? Why?
Probably Dani because she's sarcastic like me, and I love that we were in this journey of writing this novel together. She was kind of like an ally as I wrote each draft. I think I'd be best friends with Dani if she existed in real life.
Which of the characters in your novel would you say you relate to the most? why?
Definitely Dani. I'm a Midwest girl who relocated to Los Angeles to follow her writing passion. I was more into television writing, while Dani wants to be in the movie business. Plus, her sass is my sass.
What inspired you to write this story? Did you always have a passion for writing?
I love showing people what the entertainment industry is really like behind the scenes. I have so many stories from my experiences as a reporter and I can't wait to work more of them into my novels. I've wanted to write since I was a little girl. I remember trying to write scary books like R.L. Stine on my family's old Mac computer. It's probably still saved somewhere on a floppy disk. Kids, if you don't know what a floppy disk is, just look at the "save" icon on your Word processor. That's a floppy disk.
