Overview: The only sure way to destroy a man is to take what he cannot live without.
Three years ago, I had everything.
A beautiful wife.
A son.
A reason for living.
Until a ruthless task force, assembled under Mayor Michael Culling, with a brutal strategy to make the streets of Detroit ‘safe’, ripped away everything I loved in a deadly hunt called The Culling.
They tried to kill me, too. I wish they had. Now I'm cursed by the memories of that night, and the words I whispered to my dying wife.
A promise—to avenge the wrong and set it right.
I’m no longer Nick Ryder. I’m a masked vigilante. Faceless. Loveless. Fearless. A man with nothing left to lose—one who's seen the dark and violent truth behind the city’s flawless veneer.
Michael Culling doesn’t know who I am. Or what I want. All he knows is that I’ve kidnapped his beautiful wife.
An eye for an eye—isn’t that how the saying goes? And Aubree Culling is the perfect pawn to destroy him.
If she doesn’t destroy me first.

My Review: Holy. Fucking. Hell. Mind is blown and I'm left reeling. I've pulled myself together and can now write the review this book deserves. I give Ricochet 4.5 most exquisite destruction stars! The story is on the darker side and is set to have a very redeemable hero and heroine. The story alternates between usually his and her points of view but sometimes switches to another. Both the characters and story line were pretty well planned out and I only had minor issues which lost the book a half star.
Nick, Nick, yes! Nick is our very psychologically messed up redeemable hero. You would have some issues if you watched the rape of your wife and had your son killed before your eyes. Oh, one must not forget taking a bullet to the head. Nick has suffered something fierce and his driving force is revenge against the man who took everything from him. Nick's need for revenge is how he ends up taking Aubree.
Aubree looks as if she has the perfect life with a doting husband. Public appearances can be deceiving and Aubree isn't living but surviving. Michael Culling is a sociopath and enjoys "punishing" Aubree. She clings to the hope that she can be free of him of one day and that is one of the only reasons she hasn't completely cracked.
When Nick and Aubree first meet it is an interesting meeting to say the least. Nick kidnaps Aubree and there's some pull for each of them. Nick attempts to ignore the desire Aubree sparks within because he sees her in the same light as her destructive husband. After a few things change Nick can no longer view Aubree as the same as Michael Culling but views her as a victim of his. The shift ultimately leads to the two of them coming together.
The story is of revenge, of broken people, of people who learned to survive in a world that isn't filled with constant beauty, and how two broken people can piece each other back together to be whole again. There's back and forth between whether their feelings should exist for one another. There's action, heartbreak, and the finding of a happy ending that Aubree would have never guessed would be hers.
