When did I start reading romance? Honestly, it feels like forever but I believe my first "romance" novel came around the age of 11 and it was a V.C. Andrews novel. If you know anything about V.C. Andrews, you'll know the content is quite mature. From there, I was all about reading romance. I had read things like Gossip Girl and stuff before but once I picked up that first Andrews novel, romance owned a piece of my very soul.
Why do I read romance? This is such a loaded question. In short, I'm a hopeless romantic. I believe in soulmates, in compliments of myself in another person and in the power of love. It's kind of funny since in today's day that is pretty much a laughing matter and considered "old school," but I grew up on musicals with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire falling in love and singing and dancing off into the sunset. I like that the books ultimately have happy endings because life, in general, can be very disappointing and dissatisfying. Also, it's my escape from my own issues and feelings of loneliness. Lastly, romance has so many sub-genres that you can literally touch so many different walks of life while still in a romantic notion. How amazing is that?
Right, I am SO with you on this. My favourite genre is Romance, for the reason you mentioned that it always has a happy ending. Im a romantic myself so it's an instant connection between me and the book! I am going to look into some V.C Andrews romantic novels now. Lovely post. XXX

To be honest, if there's a genre you love and you have so many reasons to love it for, you shouldn't be apologetic about loving it!!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I love reading books like The Lord Of the Rings and stuff, but I often can't keep up with the lore and stuff (so that's not a series I like telling people about) BUT I'm an unapologetic fan of Harry Potter!
Romance isn't my favorite, but I don't mind reading a chick lit every now and then. The last one I read was Eleanor and Park :)

Romance is a book genre that I love to read as well. I love the cute scenes that just melt your heart and make you wish you had the love that's shared between the two characters. But I can see why a lot of people shy away from it. Romance can sometimes be super cheesy and cliche that it's almost cringe worthy. I'm very specific on the romance novels that I do read, but when I find a good one, I'll never stop raving about it :)
